Within the hospitality industry, every element of the guest experience plays a role in shaping perception and loyalty. While decor, service, and food quality have long been prioritized, background music is increasingly being recognized as a powerful yet often overlooked tool. In Indonesia, this awareness is still emerging, with many businesses only beginning to understand how curated music can enhance ambiance, influence guest behavior, and reinforce brand identity.
Traditionally, many Indonesian cafés, hotels, and restaurants have relied on random playlists or personal taste to guide music selection. This informal approach may seem harmless, but poorly chosen or inconsistent music can disrupt the atmosphere and weaken the overall guest experience. As the market becomes more competitive and customer expectations evolve, more operators are realizing that music is not just a background feature but also an extension of their brand voice and values.
This shift in mindset is particularly visible in urban centers such as Jakarta, Bali, and Bandung, where a new wave of hospitality venues are prioritizing curated soundscapes. Forward-thinking business owners are beginning to work with music consultants or adopt specialized platforms that align music with brand personality, time of day, and target demographics. These efforts not only improve the mood and flow of a space but can also increase dwell time, customer satisfaction, and even revenue.
Although this trend is still in its early stages, the growing awareness signals a broader movement toward more intentional and experience-driven hospitality design in Indonesia. As more venues begin to recognize the strategic value of sound, background music is set to become a standard part of brand strategy and transforming passive listening into a deliberate tool for differentiation and connection.
